Kelantanese would say "Orang Darat" if you are like somebody from the rural area who wears yellow shirt with red pants and green sneakers. Yesterday, while I was getting ready in the car, I asked Mr Mykita, how do I look. "Ada rupa Orang Darat tak?", then he answered, "Tak, OK je. Rupa macam Orang Air". Then we laughed together.
From what I've learned, Orang Darat is someone who lives on land, and Orang Laut is someone who lives beside the seashore. Orang Darat normally will eat all the fish that available in the river and padi field. While Orang Laut will eat all the fish that available in the sea. Sometimes, Orang Laut did not eat the 'land fish' at all. Like my Mama, she cannot eat the 'land fish' cause she can taste the dirt in the fish flesh. Well folks, that is the story of the Orang Darat and Orang Laut. Hihihi, one thing for sure, me and my husband both can eat the 'land fish' and the 'sea fish', so we should consider ourselves the 'Orang Udara'.
